Fogstar vs Renogy Leisure Battery: Which Should You Choose? 🔋

Two of the most searched LiFePO4 leisure battery brands, side by side, so you can pick the right one for your camper van, self-build or motorhome.

Cell quality and build

Fogstar's Drift range uses Grade A EVE prismatic LiFePO4 cells paired with a JBD battery management system (BMS) across the whole range. Renogy's line-up varies more by series, with some models using prismatic cells and their more compact Core Mini range built around a different cell format, so it's worth checking the specific model rather than assuming the whole Renogy range is built the same way.

Warranty

This is one of the clearest differences: Fogstar backs its Drift batteries with a 10-year warranty, while Renogy's leisure batteries typically carry a 5-year warranty. A longer warranty is generally a strong signal of manufacturer confidence in cycle life and long-term reliability.

Capacity range

Fogstar's Drift range spans a wide ladder of capacities, from 105Ah up to 628Ah, plus a 24V 280Ah option, giving builders a lot of flexibility to size a system without stepping outside one brand. Renogy also offers a broad spread, from smaller Core Mini units up to 300Ah options, with various self-heating and Bluetooth-enabled variants across the range.

Cycle life and discharge current

Fogstar's Drift batteries are rated from around 3,500 cycles on smaller models up to 6,000 cycles on the largest, with max continuous discharge up to 250A on many models. Renogy's larger Core-series batteries are commonly rated around 5,000+ cycles at 80% depth of discharge. Both brands are firmly in LiFePO4 territory, so real-world lifespan will come down to how the battery is used and maintained as much as the headline cycle rating.

Price

Both brands sit in a similar competitive price bracket for UK LiFePO4 leisure batteries, with pricing that shifts regularly around sales and promotions on both sides. Rather than comparing headline prices, it's worth working out cost per Ah at the capacity you actually need, since larger batteries usually offer better value per Ah than smaller ones.

Why we back Fogstar

As an authorised Fogstar dealer, we stock the Drift range because of the combination of Grade A cell quality, the 10-year warranty, and a capacity ladder that covers everything from a simple weekend setup to a full off-grid build.
