Buying Mum a Motorhome Under £10,000 – Part 3: Tackling the Issues and Upgrading Comfort

Welcome back to our build series — in Part 3, we roll up our sleeves and get stuck into correcting all the flaws we uncovered earlier. From plumbing leaks and dodgy wiring to insulation and comfort upgrades, this episode is all about turning a bargain-buy into a reliable, cosy motorhome for Mum.

What we fixed & improved

  • Plumbing repairs & leak fixes – Sorting out pipework, tightening joints and eliminating water ingress so the van is safe for daily use.
  • Electrical system overhaul – Reworking connections, tidying wiring and making sure the van’s 12V system is safe and ready for appliances.
  • Insulation & comfort upgrades – Adding insulation, sealing gaps and improving warmth and livability for long-term comfort.
  • Internal improvements – From fixing loose panels to addressing hidden issues, we put the effort into making the van solid and dependable.
  • Budget-friendly solutions – Showing exactly what can be achieved on a sub-£10,000 project without cutting corners.

This episode proves that even a bargain-priced motorhome can become a comfortable, reliable space with the right fixes. It’s all about addressing fundamentals early — electrics, insulation, water — so the upgrades later actually last.

Why this stage matters

A budget motorhome isn’t just about saving money — it’s about creating something safe and functional. By tackling the core issues now, we’re building a solid foundation for Mum’s van so it’s ready for real adventures instead of constant repairs.

What’s next?

With the major fixes sorted, we’re moving onto the fun stuff: decorating, comfort touches, small upgrades and getting the van ready for its first proper outing. If you’re enjoying this series, make sure to follow along as we bring it all together.
